It is easy to become so focused on the things in our children that burden us. Those parts of their young personalities that cause us to fear that they will never “get it”. We grow weary when it seems like we discipline them for the SAME. THINGS. EVERY. DAY. Because of this, we miss the opportunities to encourage them.
At some point in my parenting journey, God began prompting me to bless my children, not only as a way to reward them for good behavior but as a way to model His unconditional love and grace. So, on the days that they had been particularly difficult, had done poorly on a test, or had generally had a bad day, I began looking for ways to bless them. Instead of doing what my flesh wanted to do – which was distance myself from them – I began to choose to draw them closer and tell them I love them and that they are precious.
This is how God blesses you and I on a daily basis. This is one way in which we can live out the gospel in the lives of our children.
Your Mission, Should You Choose To Accept It:
How can you bless your children today? Look for the times in which you feel like you have “had it!” with them, and then draw them close. I’d love it if you would share the opportunities you are given to bless your children this week!
